The Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) Tax Incentive Program is a Canadian government initiative designed to encourage research and development activities within Canada. This program offers two main tax incentives:
- Income Tax Deduction: Businesses can deduct eligible expenses from their taxable income, reducing their income tax liability.
- Investment Tax Credit (ITC): Businesses can claim a credit on eligible expenditures, further reducing their income tax payable.
To qualify for these incentives, businesses must demonstrate a clear connection between their eligible work and the expenses they plan to claim. Key requirements include:
- Submitting the SR&ED claim along with their annual income tax return.
- Accessing resources and support services provided by the SR&ED program, including guidance on project grouping, expenditure calculation, and form completion before the deadline.
